RAMALLAH, March 27 (Xinhuanet) -- About 400 Palestinian prisoners in the
Hadarim prison announced Sunday their intention to go on a hunger-strike every
time Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas meets Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
The prisoners said in a letter to the Palestinian ministry of prisoner's
affairs that the step was aimed at urging both sides toput the prisoners'
question high on the agenda.
The letter said that Israeli prisoners' administration failed tofulfil
pledges to meet the prisoners' demand after their hunger-strike last August.
The prisoners will implement the hunger-strike to improve their living
conditions in the prison and to press the administration to change its policy
against the prisoners.
The main demands the prisoners made were: stopping the searching policy and imposing
financial fees, allowing parents to visit their imprisoned children,
caring for the sick prisoners.
They also called for allowing the prisoners to contact their families by phone,
permitting access to the stuff brought by the prisoners' families, and lifting
the glassy barrier in the visiting window. Enditem
