MEXICO CITY, March 26 (Xinhuanet) -- At least five people were killed Saturday morning in a fire in Ecatepec municipality, north of the capital, said the Mexican government.

The fire started in the La Cuesta neighborhood near the Cerro Gordo hill and destroyed 60 makeshift houses in an hour as most ofthem were made of cardboard and wood, said the Civil Protection Direction of Ecatepec.

So far the cause of the fire has not been identified by the authorities, but local press said the fire may be caused by gas leak.

The fire was brought under control by local firemen and their colleagues from the municipalities of Tlalnepantla and Atizapan deZaragoza.

Nearly 120 families lived in the neighborhood. Enditem
