MOSCOW, March 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Kyrgyzstan's ousted President Askar Akayev had
arrived in Russia, the Interfax news agency quoted unofficial sources as saying
Saturday.
"Akayev arrived during the night from Kazakhstan by plane," the agency
quoted one of the sources as saying.
But the Kyrgyz Embassy in Moscow did not confirm the information.
"We has no such information now," "and it is very pity that we do not know
where is Askar Akayev," said a collaborator with the Kyrgyz embassy to Interfax.
An assassination attempt is being prepared on Akayev, who has recently left
his country as his government collapsed, said Chairman of the Kyrgyz State
Council Osmanakul Ibraimov, who was dismissed from his position by the newly
formed interim government.
"I know for sure that an attempt on his life is being prepared," Ibraimov
said in an interview broadcast by Russia's Channel Onetelevision on Saturday.
Ibraimov said a number of his colleagues from the previous government
"suffered very serious injuries and were cruelly beaten up" during the latest
events. "I am really worried about their lives and health," he said.
The 60-year-old Akayev, who has ruled the country since 1990, fled the country on Thursday amid protests of opposition supporters. Enditem |
