India disappointed at US selling F-16s to Pakistan

    NEW DELHI, March 25 (Xinhuanet) -- India on Friday conveyed its "great disappointment" to the United States over its decision to sell F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan.

    Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed India's views when US President George W. Bush telephoned him Friday evening, anaide to the prime minister told reporters.

    "The prime minister received a telephone call from the US president. They had a wide-ranging conversation," Prime Minister's Office spokesman Sanjaya Baru said.

    "The US president, among other things, spoke about his administration's decision to transfer F-16 aircraft to Pakistan. The prime minister expressed India's great disappointment at this decision," Baru said.

    India maintains that the sale of F-16s to Pakistan would pose athreat to the region's security environment. Enditem
