US reaffirms Modi visa denial

    NEW DELHI, March 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States on Monday reaffirmed its decision to deny a visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, despite India's request that Washington reconsider the move, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

    US Ambassador to India David Mulford, in a statement read out to journalists outside the embassy, announced the State Department's reaffirmation of the visa denial.

    The denial of visa to Modi had triggered a storm of protest, with the Indian government also terming the US action as "uncalled for." Enditem
