BAGHDAD, March 20 (Xinhuanet) -- US forces killed 24 insurgents and wounded seven others on Sunday when they returned fire after coming under attack, the US military said.

    The military said in a statement that six soldiers were injured in the battle, which happened approximately mid-Sunday on the outskirts of Baghdad.

    The statement did not give further details about the attack which coincided with the second anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq.

    The mainly Sunni insurgents have launched a guerilla campaign to drive the foreign forces out of Iraq. Enditem
