MONTEVIDEO, March 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Police from 12 European and American countries on Wednesday launched a joint campaign to fight child pornography on the Internet, Uruguayan police said Thursday.
They have closed down over 900 websites, detained more than 500suspects, including two Uruguayans, and captured a large number ofcomputers, video cameras and photocopiers, according to the Uruguayan police.
The police also said that the action was coordinated by the Spanish national guards, who received tip from a Spaniard on Jan. 19.
The Spanish national guards launched an investigation into the case along with police from France, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Chile, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rico, Mexico, Dominica and Uruguay.
The investigation showed child pornography on the Internet is rampant, with the suspects committing the crime through video records, photos, MP3 and on-line chatting. Enditem |
