BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Many Latin American countries and regional groups have expressed support for China's Anti-Secession Law, which was intended to prevent "Taiwan independence."

Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo said his country supports the Anti-Secession Law, which is in conformity of the one-China policy it has always upheld.

Uruguayan Foreign Minister Reinaldo Gargano said his country fully respects the adoption of the law by China's National People's Congress and will stick to a one China policy.

Jamaican Senate President Syringa Marshall Burnett and House of Representatives Speaker Michael Peart said the Anti-Secession Law is part of China's efforts to reach peaceful reunification. Jamaican parliament supports its government's policy to develop ties with China on the basis of a one-China policy.

President of the Latin-American Parliament Ney Lopes said he totally supports China's Anti-Secession Law, adding that China's National People's Congress, the government and people have the legitimate right to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.

A senior official with the Argentine Foreign Ministry said his country shares with China's position on safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity and fully understands the importance of the Anti-Secession Law. Argentina will stick to a one-China policy, said the official.

The Foreign Ministry of Antigua and Barbuda said the country opposes "Taiwan independence" and hopes for peaceful reunification of China. Antigua and Barbuda recognizes that Taiwan is part of China and will stick to this position, it said.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Patricio Zuquilanda said the Anti-Secession Law was adopted with a view of peaceful reunification of the country and is therefore positive and of historical significance.

The Ecuadorian government totally understands China's concern and will stick as always to a one-China policy and support the country's peaceful reunification.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said that his country understands and respects China's decision to formulate and adopt the Anti-Secession Law.

Colombia and China have always enjoyed mutual trust in developing bilateral relations, Uribe told Xinhua ahead of a visit to China in early April. Enditem
