Mehsud believed to be shot dead
www.chinaview.cn 2005-03-17 19:12:38

BEIJING, Mar. 17 -- In Pakistan, and the government has claimed that rebel leader, Abdullah Mehsud has been killed.

President Pervez Musharraf says he has evidence to suggest Mehsud was shot and later died of his injuries. He said Pakistani military forces launched an attack after learning of the location of Mehsud's hiding place, and that Mehsud was killed during the raid.

This confirms reports in Pakistani newspapers, which say Mehsud was badly injured in the March 5th shoot-out and died on the 11th.

Mehsud was released by the United States from Guantanamo Bay in March last year. He claimed responsibility for kidnapping two Chinese engineers last October. One of them was killed.

Last December, Pakistan's military offered more than 84 thousand US dollars for his capture.
