BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification (CCPPR) held a workshop Wednesday to show its support for the Anti-Secession Law approved recently at the annual session of the National People's Congress.

Addressing the workshop, Liu Yandong, vice president of the CCPPR, said the council firmly advocates and supports the law.

In her speech, Liu, also vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), highlighted the "long-time, unswerving efforts" made by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government "in resolving the Taiwan Question and the four-point instructions"made by President Hu Jintao.

"It is a common call by all the Chinese people, including the compatriots of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese, to curb the separatist conspiracy of pro-independence forces in Taiwan by the means of law," she said, adding that the law is directed against "separatist and pro-independence forces in Taiwanand aimed at safeguarding the kernel interests of all the Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots."

On the same day, the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League held a workshop on the same topic. Zhang Kehui, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the league, expressedhis full support to the enactment of the law.

Zhang criticized some separatists with ulterior motives for their attempts to distort, misguide and cheat the people of Taiwan."I believe that the majority of Taiwan compatriots understand the stance of the mainland in a objective and rational way," he said. Enditem
