Half of Danes undecided on EU constitution
www.chinaview.cn 2005-03-15 03:14:40

STOCKHOLM, March 14 (Xinhuanet) -- A poll showed that 46 percent of Danes are undecided in the question of whether they will vote for the draft EU constitutional treaty in the Sept. 27 referendum, the Ritzau news bureau reported on Monday.

Election researchers, however, cautioned that survey numbers released this far in advance can be unreliable, as other EU votes have shown that no side often gains strength as the vote approaches.

"It is totally impossible to say anything about the result of the referendum right now. There are a lot of Danes that make theirdecision at the last minute," said Lars Bille, an election researcher at Copenhagen University.

According to the poll, 46 percent of Danes are undecided, while33 percent said they would vote for the constitution and 21 percent said they would vote no.

Two thirds of those answering felt that they were poorly informed of the contents of the new constitution, according to a new survey by Ramboell Management for daily newspaper Jyllands Posten.

The survey also found that women made up the largest percentageof doubters, 52 percent. Enditem
