BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese political advisors have indicated interests in a wide range of issues concerning social and economic development, as shown in the proposals submitted to the third annual session of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), just came to a close here Saturday afternoon.

By 5 p.m. on March 8, some 1,990 political advisors, 86.75 percent of the total of CPPCC National Committee members, had submitted 4,508 proposals to this year's CPPCC session.

Among them, 4,375, together with a total of 133 letters from the CPPCC national committee members, were filed and forwarded to relevant departments for deliberation and handling, according to areport by the CPPCC Proposals Sub-Committee on the examination of proposals approved on the closing meeting Saturday.

Among the 4,500-strong proposals received, 1,940 are related to economic development issues and 1,284 covered sciences, education, cultural, health and sports topics. And 1,151 suggestions bore on political, legal and other spheres of interest.

A considerable portion of the proposals tabled at this year's CPPCC session are relevant to such issues as "scientific outlook on development," "building a harmonious socialist economy", "macro-control measures", "production safety", "agricultural, peasant farmers and rural economy," "recyclable economy" and "balanced development".

The CPPCC, an organization of elite entrepreneurs, business people, experts and scholars, and literary and art workers, has been widely esteemed as China's "largest think tank", whose proposals and suggestions are highly valued by the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese government.

Members of the CPPCC National Committee can put forward proposals to offer comments and suggestions on major political andsocial issues of the country at any time they wish. Enditem
