BUENOS AIRES, March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 131 people were injured Thursday when two commuter trains collided in the capital city of Buenos Aires, authorities said.

The accident took place when a Buenos Aires commuter train crashed into the back of a stopped commuter train waiting for transit signal outside a downtown station, said a spokesman of the railway workers union.

65 of the injured were hospitalized though none of them were in serious condition, said director of the city's emergency rescue service. There were no death reported.

The train was traveling slowly at 40 kilometers per hour because of repairs on the tracks, which prevented the accident from becoming a much greater tragedy, police said.

Preliminary investigation shows that the signals were functioning properly at the time and the conductor of the second train failed to respect the signals to halt his train, police said. Enditem
