Israeli parliamentarian calls for investigation on incitement

JERUSALEM, March 9 (Xinhuanet) -- An Israeli parliament member of the Labor Party on Wednesday called for opening an investigation on the incitement against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Israel Radio reported.

Orit Noked called on Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to start an investigation into Rabbi Ovadia Yosef for his incitement against the prime minister.

In a pre-Purim sermon in a Jerusalem synagogue, Rabbi Yosef expressed fierce opposition to Sharon and the disengagement plan.

"What a cruel and evil man does such things," he said, adding "God will strike him with one blow and he will die, he will sleep and not awake."

Sources from an ultra-Orthodox party said Wednesday that the rabbi does not wish Sharon's death, but rather the disengagement plan.

Earlier Tuesday, Rabbi Yosef met with settlement rabbis, and rejected their request to support a national referendum on the withdrawal.

Israeli cabinet approved the pullout bill on Feb. 20, which is due to take place by the end of July.

The pullout plan, also known as the disengagement plan, was put forward by Sharon at the end of 2003 and aimed at removing all Gaza settlements and four of about 120 in the West Bank. Enditem
