BANGKOK, March 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand's care taker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was elected for a second term by a majority of parliament on Wednesday morning.

The second sitting of the new House of Representatives elected Thaksin as the 23rd prime minister of Thailand, a widely expected result.

Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai Party won a landslide victory in the general election held on Feb. 6.

With up to 377 of the 500 parliament seats falling into Thai Rak Thai's control, Thaksin was surely to continue a second term even before the parliament election was held.

Thaksin, a telecommunication tycoon, also became the first public-elected prime minister that has served two terms.

He said the new cabinet line-up will be officially announced on Friday.
