BRUSSELS, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The UN tribunal in The Hague announced on
Monday to publicize the charges against former Yugoslav general Momcilo Perisic,
who surrendered to tribunal on the same day.
In an indictment issued by the tribunal, the International Criminal Tribunal
for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) released the detailed charges against Perisic,
who was the Chief of the General Staff of the Yugoslav Army (VJ) from
around August 1993 until November 1998 during the rule of former president
Slobodan Milosevic.
The former general faces eight charges of crimes against humanity and five
counts of war crimes, according to the indictment.
"Momcilo Perisic, as the most senior officer in the VJ having overall
authority and responsibility of its functioning, planned, instigated, ordered,
committed, or otherwise aided and abetted in the planning, preparation, or
execution of crimes," said the indictment.
The tribunal indicated that Perisic has been indicted over atrocities
committed by his subordinates during the 1992-95 siege of Sarajevo, the 1995
Srebrenica massacre and attacks on the Croatian capital Zagreb in May 1995.
Perisic arrived at The Hague on Monday, the fourth
former Yugoslav general who surrendered to the court in a month.
