RAMALLAH, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Two Israeli citizens were wounded Monday morning after Palestinian gunmen opened fire at them in the West Bank city of Hebron, Israeli security sources reported Monday.

The gunmen opened automatic arms fire at a group of Israelis standing near the Tomb of the Patriarchs in the Casaba area in Hebron, said the sources.

Israeli medics said that the condition of one of the wounded men was initially described as serious while the other was described aslight.

Security sources added that after transferring the two wounded to the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, Israeli army troops immediately began to hunt down the gunmen.

Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported on its website that the shrine has long been a flashpoint of violence in the strife-torn city. Enditem
