12 Iraqis killed in attacks north of Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Insurgents launched series of attacks Monday, killing 12 Iraqi security members northeast of Baghdad, police said.

    A car bomb, three roadside bombs and small arms attacks targeted Iraqi security forces at several checkpoints in and around the restive city of Baquba, some 60 km northeast of Baghdad, the policesaid.

    Seven Iraqi soldiers and five policemen were killed and 26 others wounded in the attacks, they added, citing medical sources.

    Insurgents frequently attack Iraq's fledgling security forces asthe US military intensifies its efforts to train and equip Iraqis to assume more responsibility for the country's security. Enditem
