BEIJING, March. 7 -- Pope John Paul II appeared at his hospital window in Rome on Sunday, to bless about 300 pilgrims gathered outside.

The 84-year-old pontiff is recovering from a throat operation and did not attempt to address the crowd during his brief appearance.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church re-entered the hospital 10 days ago following a relapse of the flu.

He underwent a tracheotomy on the same day to relieve breathing difficulties. Enditem
