MOMBASA, Kenya, March 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Delegates at the World Trade Organization (WTO) mini ministerial meeting in Kenya agreed to intensify work on the Doha round talks and set April and June as new deadlines for negotiations in agriculture and industrial products, a senior Australian trade official said here Friday.

Progress in all key areas of the Doha round was discussed at the two-day meeting in Kenyan coastal town Mombasa and delegates have agreed on specific steps to move negotiations forward, said Australian Trade Minister Mark Vaile at a press conference shortlyafter the WTO meeting.

"In agriculture, those delegations that have been resisting tabling critical data for deciding on a tariff cutting formula have now agreed to do so by the April meeting of the agricultural negotiating group," he said.

On industrial products, delegates agreed the tariff cutting formula should be decided by June, he added. On services, the Australian minister welcomed new offers from a number of developing countries and stressed the importance of members adhering to the May deadline for the submission of improved offers.

"Progress in these areas, especially agriculture, will provide much needed momentum to the whole round," he said.

The Mombasa meeting, which started Thursday and drew delegates from 32 WTO members, is another crucial occasion to pave the way for a successful Doha round talks.

All delegates attending the meeting have agreed to continue with the political dialogue and provide the necessary impetus to the negotiations in Geneva.

The small group of trade ministers at the Mombasa meeting will meet again in early May in Paris on the margins of the ministerialmeeting of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development. Enditem
