Iranian official criticizes IAEA for reading verification report

TEHRAN, March 2 (Xinhuanet) -- An Iranian nuclear official on Wednesday in Vienna criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for reading verification report on Iran's nuclear activities at the Board of Governors meeting, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"It was an unusual measure. The reports of this kind are as a rule presented to technical meetings held prior to Board of Governors' meeting while this time and on Iran's case it was read out in the official session of the board," Mohammad Saeedi, deputy for Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, was quoted as saying.

Saeedi noted that Iran had informed IAEA Director General Mohammad ElBaradei of its view.

According to Saeedi, the report reflects the procedure of IAEA inspection visits and the origin of the nuclear pollution detected in Iran.

He said the report stressed the fact that all Iran's nuclear activities had been carried out under the supervision of the IAEA experts and were monitored by the cameras installed by the agency.

"The important thing for Iran was only that it was cooperating with the IAEA in the full scale and tried to bring all its nuclear activities in compliance with the internationally-accepted regulations," Saeedi said.

The IAEA is holding its Board of Governors' meeting in Vienna, with Iran's nuclear case on the agenda of discussion.

The United States has accused Iran of developing nuclear weaponssecretly, but Iran has denied the charge, saying Washington was politically motivated.

Iran has allowed strict inspections by the IAEA on its nuclear facilities to clear itself of the motivation of nuclear research. Enditem
