TEHRAN, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran reiterated on Sunday that it would not give up uranium enrichment in return for concessions, the official IRNA news agency reported.
"Iran does not want any concession on uranium enrichment suspension and just demands its absolute right," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying.
"The Europeans thought Iran might forgo uranium enrichment or withdraw its stance if negotiations extended or it were given some certain concessions. However, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Hassan Rowhani and Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, in their Europe tours, announced Iran's message clearly," Asefi said.
"The Iranian officials told the Europeans neither extension of talks is acceptable nor concessions may work," Asefi added.
Asefi stressed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors did not find any evidence to prove the US accusation that Iran was building nuclear weapons.
"The IAEA has repeatedly announced that we have not violated our peaceful goals (of nuclear research)," Asefi said.
Iran and the European Union have concluded three rounds of talks on Iran's disputed nuclear program since Tehran suspended its uranium enrichment activities last November. Enditem |
