Islamic Jihad behind Tel Aviv bombing
www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-27 09:59:05

BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The Islamic Jihad militant group has claimed responsibility for Friday's suicide attack in Israel's Tel Aviv, which killed four Israelis.

Speaking on a videotape, the suicide bomber said the operation aimed to sabotage Palestinian leaders' efforts to implement the truce agreement declared with Israel.

Soon after the Tel Aviv bombing, Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Israel had decided to freeze plans to hand over the security control of five towns in the West Bank to the Palestinians.

Mofaz says Israel may retaliate against the Islamic Jihad militant group, indicating that his country will exert more diplomatic pressure on Syria for its alleged involvement in the attack.
