CAIRO, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit denounced Saturday a suicide bombing attack in Israel's Tel Aviv which killed four Israelis and wounded 50 others on Friday night.
"Such an incident complicated the situation and gave a chance for extremist elements to undermine current efforts to secure a truce and to break the stalemate in the peace process," Abul Gheitwas quoted by the official MENA news agency as saying. The top Egyptian diplomat made the remarks during a meeting with Palestinian national security adviser Jebril Al-Rajoub. Abul Gheit hailed efforts exerted by the Palestinian National Authority to track down perpetrators and bring the situation under control, while calling upon the Palestinians and the Israelis to commit to self-restraint and to avoid any measures of escalation.
A suicide bomber, identified by Israel as a Palestinian student, detonated a powerful bomb among Israelis waiting outside a seaside nightclub Friday in Tel Aviv, killing four Israelis and himself. The attack, the first such inside Israel since last September, dealt a blow to a looming hope following a mutual ceasefire announced by Israel and the Palestinian side earlier this month.Enditem |
