BAGHDAD, Feb. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Three US soldiers were killed and eight others wounded in a bomb attack in northern Baghdad on Friday, the US military said.

"Three Task Force Baghdad soldiers were killed and eight others wounded in northern Baghdad on the morning of Feb. 25 when an improvised explosive device detonated while the unit was conducting a patrol," the military said in a statement.

Earlier, an Arabic-language television and witnesses said that a group of US soldiers were hit by a roadside bomb.

The powerful explosion took place around midday in Tarmiyah area. Witnesses said they saw several US soldiers laying on the ground while five Humvees were parking behind them.

After the attack, US helicopters rushed to the area to evacuate casualties to a US military facility, and the road was immediately sealed off by US troops and Iraqi security forces. Enditem
