KAMPALA, Feb. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said that his government has designed a deliberate policy to support and promote the industrial and manufacturing sector to tackle the problems of poverty and unemployment in the east African country.

According to a press release issued here Friday by the State House, Museveni made the remarks on Thursday when launching three development projects in Mbale municipality in eastern Uganda.

Museveni stressed the government's determination to ensure that Ugandans better household income since the challenges of Universal Primary Education and Immunization Programs have been successfully tackled.

He said poverty could effectively be eliminated through building more factories that would provide employment and extending low interest micro finance support to self employed people.

Museveni said as Uganda's economy depends largely on agriculture any form of agro-processing is a stimulus to the development of the country.

He reiterated his government commitment to changing the face of rural areas in Uganda through mobilizing the population to adopt modern farming methods.

The president challenged officials to monitor the government program closely to ensure their implementation, saying that neglect of government programs by some leaders is a denial of service to people in some parts of the country.

About 38 percent of Ugandans is currently living under poverty line of one US dollar per day, compared to 50 percent of the population living in poverty a decade ago. Enditem
