Number of divorces up after festivals
www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-25 16:34:09

BEIJING, Feb. 25 -- Valentine¡¯s Day may be the last time that some couples in Guangzhou are together.

Many couples divorce after the festivals.

A marriage office in the southern city says that about 10 couples per day come to the office to register their divorced. And the city¡¯s Federation of Women says half of the calls taken after the festivals relate to divorce procedures.

Some applicants say they decided to spend the last Spring Festival and Valentine¡¯s Day with their spouse before divorcing. Also, they hope the New Year will offer them both a new start.
