JAKARTA, Feb. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian army plans to build four helicopter squadrons as part of rejuvenation program in the army's military equipment, newly-appointed Army Chief of Staff Djoko Santoso said Thursday.
"Our target is to complete four helicopter squadrons by 2014," he said in a gathering with army top brass in South Jakarta.
"The target will depend on the country's economic strength but we hope we will complete four squadrons of attack and personnel helicopters in stages," said Djoko, who was sworn in as the army chief last Friday.
Djoko said the army has purchased two Russia-made MI-35 helicopters and planned to acquire more.
"We are also in the process of acquiring Mi-17 helicopters (from Russia)," he added. Enditem |
