GAZA, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei yielded to pressure from the mainstream Fatah movement and decided to regroup his cabinet one day after he presented it to the Palestinian parliament.
Palestinian officials and parliamentarians told reporters on Tuesday that Qurei had accepted a request to regroup his cabinet to include more reformists.
The reshuffled one would be presented to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) on Wednesday for confidence voting.
The PLC held a session earlier Tuesday to continue debates on the composition of the new cabinet.
The previous cabinet make-up Qurei presented on Monday drew criticism from Fatah, which said the cabinet was plagued by corruption and full of corrupt officials.
Fatah also called on Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to sack Qurei and dissolve the cabinet.
Qurei told the PLC that he had listened to the debates and after that he decided to form a completely new one.
"It had been decided to form a completely new cabinet, to be consisted of ministers who are more qualified," said Qurei, adding that the new cabinet would include only two PLC members.
"I hope that the new one would get your confidence and support," he added.
Qurei said the new cabinet would be observed by the PLC until the legislative elections due on July 17. Enditem |
