| US President George W. Bush at a joint press conference with European leaders in Brussels, February 22, 2005. The heads of government of the European Union met with Bush on Tuesday. | BRUSSELS, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush said here Tuesday evening that the talk of US attack on Iran over its nuclear programs is "ridiculous".
He made the remarks at a press conference in the building of the Council of the European Union (EU) where he attended the EU-US summit meeting.
"This notion that the United States is getting ready to attack Iran is simply ridiculous," Bush said at the press conference jointly held with EU leaders.
However, he quickly added that all options remained open, noting that European countries were trying to seek a diplomatic resolution to the issue.
"All options are on the table," he said.
France, Germany and the United Kingdom are leading EU efforts in trying to solve the problem through peaceful means. They have been endeavoring to persuade Tehran to halt its uranium enrichmentactivities in exchange for better trade relations.
In a 30-minute speech delivered at the Royal Concert in Brussels on Monday, Bush reiterated US position that Iran must notdevelop nuclear weapons, falling short of saying whether his country would join in the EU peace efforts made in this direction.
Bush is on a fence-mending Europe tour. The issue of Iran's nuclear programs is high on his agenda. Enditem |
