BRUSSELS, Feb. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Union (EU) foreign ministers called on Monday for an international probe into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafick Hariri lastweek.

"The Council (of ministers) strongly condemns the shameful killing of the former Prime Minister of Lebanon Mr. Rafick Hariri," said a conclusion approved by EU foreign ministers' monthly meeting in Brussels.

"(The council) calls for an international investigation without delay to shed light on the circumstances and those responsible forthis attack," the conclusion added.

The EU foreign ministers also repeated EU support for a United Nations' resolution calling for Syria to pull out all its troops from Lebanon.

Hariri was killed in a suicide car bombing in west Beirut on Feb. 14. Tensions have soared since the attack, which the Lebanese opposition party blames on Syria.

The Syrian government has denied it was responsible for the blast. Enditem
