Indonesian government confirms release of journalists in Iraq
www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-21 19:22:59

JAKARTA, Feb. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian government said Monday two TV journalists who have been held hostages by a militia group in Iraq have been released and are on the way out from the country.

"We have got a confirmation that the two journalists are now in the way out of Iraq," Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa told a press conference here.

He said the Indonesian embassy in Jordan has received a phone call from Meutya Hafid saying that she and cameraman Budiyanto are leaving Iraq.

"Evacuation is now underway but I cannot tell you where and when they will be out of Iraq," he said.

Hafid, 26, and Budiyanto, 36, both are working for Jakarta-based Metro TV, were held captive in Iraq on Feb. 15. Enditem
