Israeli ex-president in serious condition

    JERUSALEM, Feb. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Israeli former president Ezer Weizman is in very serious condition, suffering from pneumonia, Ha'aretz reported on Sunday.

    Weizman, 81, has been hospitalized for the past three weeks in Rambam Medical Center in the northern city of Haifa, and wastransferred to the intensive care unit on Saturday. He is on antibiotics and requires assisted breathing on a respirator, said the daily.

    Weizman has been hospitalized several times during the course ofthe past year. He has undergone hip and spine surgery. As a veteran politician, Weizman helped the negotiations between Israel and Egypt, which culminated in the US-backed Camp David agreements signed in 1978.

    He served as Israeli president from 1993 to 2000. Enditem
