Bush says diplomacy remains his first choice

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush said on Friday military action against Iran's nuclear program is not the US' first choice, but can never be ruled out.

"You never want a president to say never. But military action is... never the president's first choice," Bush said in an interview with Belgian television when he was asked if he could rule out military action against Iran.

"Diplomacy is always the president's, or at least always my first choice and we've got a common goal, and that is that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon," Bush said.

Bush made the remarks prior to his Sunday visit to Brussels where he is due to meet NATO and the European Union leaders on Tuesday.

Iran's alleged attempts to build nuclear weapons are expected to be a key topic when Bush meets European leaders here during theEU-US and NATO leaders' summits.

Bush insisted that the United States and its European partners had a "common mission" in terms of Iran's nuclear issues, adding that "I look forward to kinda making sure that we speak in a lone voice." Enditem
