RAMALLAH, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian envoy to
the United Nations Nasser Qidwa, who is also nephew of late leader Yasser
Arafat, will be named foreign minister in the new cabinet, well- informed
sources said Thursday.
Nabil Shaath, the incumbent foreign minister, will hold the post of deputy prime minister, said
the sources, adding that the new cabinet will not differ a lot from the current
one.
Ahmed Qurei will remain prime minister and Mohammed
Dahlan, former interior minister and confidant of newly-elected leader Mahmoud
Abbas, will be absorbed into the new cabinet as minister of cabinet's
affairs.
In addition, Brig. Gen. Nasser Youssef, former
chief of Palestinian national security and also close ally of Abbas, will be
appointed interior minister, a highly-contested post in the
cabinet.
Youssef will take charge of throngs of Palestinian
security forces and carry out expected reforms in the
apparatuses.
The mainstream Fatah movement agreed on the
makeup of the government at a meeting on Wednesday and the list is expected to
