ABUJA, Feb. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo here on Wednesday met visiting Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir on Darfur crisis, according to the official News Agency of Nigeria.

The two presidents agreed that the African Union (AU) Committee on Sudan should meet again shortly in Egypt before the talks would resume, said the report.

Obasanjo, who is the current chairman of the AU, is anxious to restart the stalled peace talks held in the Nigerian capital Abuja, which have gone on recess since last December.

Obasanjo had set up a special committee of four African leaders including the presidents of Chad, Egypt, Libya and himself as chairman to move the Sudanese peace process to fruition.

Only about a fortnight ago during their extraordinary summit inAbuja, the AU leaders had condemned the recent attack on innocent civilians in Darfur, which led to the death of more than 100 people.

The Darfur crisis which started two years ago has left at least thousands of people dead and one million people displaced. Enditem
