Kuwait hopes Iraqi elections lead to stability: FM
www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-15 02:49:50

KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah expressed hope on Monday that Iraq's elections would represent an important step towards stability in the country, the Kuwait News Agency reported.

"We in Kuwait congratulate the Iraqi people on standing up to the terrorist campaign, which was launched in an attempt to divide the Iraqis," the minister said.

He said he was glad to see that the Iraqi people had paid littleattention to the campaign and turned out in large numbers in order to have a say in shaping the future of their country.

The minister also called on the international community to continue to stand by the Iraqi people and help them draw a draft constitution.

Election results were announced Sunday, with a Shiite list collecting nearly half of the vote. Enditem
