Former chief judge assassinated in Iraq's Basra

    BAGHDAD, Feb. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Taha al-Basri, a former chief judge at Basra's highest criminal court was assassinated Saturday by two gunmen, police said.

    The gunmen on motorcycle attacked the judge as he drove to office in Basra, southern Iraq, police said, adding that Basri's bodyguard was seriously wounded in the attack.
