BAGHDAD, Feb. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- An Islamic militant group linked to al
Qaida's Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for a
suicide attack on an army recruitment center in Baghdad on Tuesday, killing at
least 13 people.
"A lion from
the martyrs brigade of the Al-Qaida Group of Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers
infiltrated the center of a group of apostates wanting to join the national
guard... in Baghdad," said astatement posted on an Islamic website.
"More than 25 apostates were killed and several dozens wounded,"the
statement said, but its authenticity could not be verified.
A powerful explosion rocked an Iraqi army recruitment center in the old
al-Muthana airfield in central Baghdad early Tuesday, killing at least 13 people
and wounding dozens of others.
Insurgents frequently target the fledging Iraqi security forces,accused of
collaborating with US-led occupation forces.
On Monday, nearly 30 people were killed in two suicide car bomb attacks on
Iraqi police in Mosul and Baquba. Enditem |
