JAKARTA, Feb. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian prosecutors demanded a court Tuesday to sentence Indonesia's Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Ba'ashir to 8 years on terrorism charges, the Elshinta online reported.

The charges include Bali bombing and JW. Marriott Hotel explosion here which killed more than 200 people,

The demand was read out by the prosecutors in the South Jakarta Court.

The militant cleric Ba'ashir has denied all charges against himsince his trial began in October, saying the accusation is a conspiracy of Western countries.

Prosecutors could have asked death penalty for the charges.

Officials said the 66-year-old Ba'ashir was the leader of the Southeast Asia militant net work Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), which links with Al Qaeda.

The JI is widely believed responsible for carrying out and plotting violence across the region. Enditem
