UN chief to visit Britain, Germany

    UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is scheduled to leave on Tuesday for a six-day visit to Britain and Germany, during which development and security will bemain topics.

    During his stay in London, Annan will meet on Thursday with Prime Minister Tony Blair and other senior British government officials, a UN spokesman said on Monday.

    Annan and Blair will then attend an event at which the secretary-general will make a major speech on his 2005 agenda for both development and security.

    He will then travel to Germany to attend the 41st Munich Conference on Security Policy, at which he will deliver a speech on "A More Secure World: The Role of the United Nations."

    In Munich, Annan will also hold meetings with German officials,including Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, as well as with other European leaders.

    He will return to New York on Sunday. Enditem
