www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-07 22:47:28

GAZA, Feb. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Israel on Monday reopened the Karni passage on the borders between eastern Gaza and Israel, a senior Palestinian security official said.

Chief of Palestinian Passages Affairs Abu Salmi Abu Safeyya toldreporters that Israel partially opened the Karni passage Monday afternoon, adding that he hopes the passage would be completely opened.

He said only food products and flowers imported from Israel are currently permitted into Gaza through the passage, adding "raw construction materials will be allowed later in the evening."

The Karni passage is the main commercial passage for goods moving between Israel and the Gaza Strip and Israel on Monday opened the passage in one way allowing goods to go from Israel intoGaza while the opposite way still remains closed.

Israel closed the Karni passage after three Palestinian militants launched a deadly attack on an outpost at the passage on Jan. 13, killing six Israeli civilians. Enditem
