Abbas meets with Fatah Council
www.chinaview.cn 2005-02-06 10:50:36

BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has met with the Fatah Revolutionary Council in Gaza.

The Palestinians want Israel to expand the terms of the prisoner release. They see this as crucial to the success of Tuesday's summit which, both sides hope, will result in a formal declaration to end violence.

Senior Aide to Abbas Nabil Abu Rdainah said: "The Palestinian position is clear. Palestinian prisoners should be released in accordance with the Palestinian criteria and the agreed upon criteria. But this agreement remains a point of difference."

"We hope we can overcome this problem within the coming 48 hours in order to ensure the success of the summit and in tribute to the efforts of all Palestinians and Yasser Arafat. We greatly appreciate the Jordanian and Egyptian efforts to make this summit a success."
