PARIS, Feb. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The US forces in Iraq detained three French militants last year in the offensive against insurgents in Fallujah, Le Figaro newspaper reported Friday.

According to the report, the three French nationals are members of the so-called "Buttes-Chaumont group," which is named after an area of the 19th district of Paris.

Two of the three, Chekou Diakhabi, 19, and Peter Cherif, 22, came from the same neighborhood of Paris. But the name of the third man is not known.

Last week, the group's spiritual leader Farid Benyettou was detained here by French intelligence agents in a series of arrests of suspected militants. Enditem
