Bush to say Social Security "headed toward bankruptcy"

     WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush willuse his State of the Union address on Wednesday night to argue forhis plan for overhauling Social Security, saying the system is "headed toward bankruptcy."

    "Social Security on its current path, is headed toward bankruptcy," according to excerpts from Bush's address as releasedby the White House before the speech.

    "Fixing Social Security permanently will require an open, candid review of the options I will work members of Congress to find the most effective combination of reforms."

    Bush will deliver a 40-minute speech to a joint session of Congress at 9 p.m. EST (0200 GMT Thursday), the first annual speech for his second term. Social Security is expected to top thedomestic agenda. Enditem กก
