NEW YORK, Jan. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Former US first lady and Senator Hillary Clinton collapsed while delivering a speech in Buffalo in New York state on Monday.

Clinton, who had been suffering from some sort of 24-hour virus, felt weak and needed to sit down, and then she fainted, a New York-based television, NY1, quoted an aide to the senator as saying. She was speaking about Social Security to about 150 people in a warm room in a private club.

Earlier in the day, during an editorial board meeting at the Buffalo News, the senator had complained about suffering from a flu-like bug that affected several of her staff members over the weekend, the TV report said.

She was treated at the scene and walked out of the building on her own. She did require hospitalization.

Clinton is said to be doing better, and she is trying to stick to her schedule.

She is supposed to speak at a Catholic college about healthcare.Hundreds of people were waiting to hear that address, and hundreds of demonstrators also gathered to protest her pro-choice stance onabortion.

Her husband, former US President Bill Clinton, underwent a quadruple heart bypass in September. Enditem
