Trinidad and Tobago recognizes China's full market economy status

    PORT OF SPAIN, Jan. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- China Monday agreed to list Trinidad and Tobago as its citizens' tourist destination, who declared to recognize China's full market economy status.

    This was the consensus reached in talks here Monday morning between visiting Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Prime Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago.

    The two leaders had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral cooperation in various fields, and on international and regional issues of common interest.

    Both sides hoped to maintain contacts between the two governments, parliaments and political parties, so as to increase mutual understanding, deepen economic and trade ties and gain a win-win situation of mutual benefit.

    Trinidad and Tobago agreed to offer assistance to Chinese companies who come to invest here, while China welcomes companies from Trinidad and Tobago to find cooperation chances in the country.

    Both sides agreed to expand cultural and educational exchanges by governmental, non-governmental and commercial channels.

    Manning reiterated his government sticks to the one China policy, over which Zeng expressed appreciation.

    After the talks, both sides signed three cooperation accords oneconomy, technology and culture. Later Monday, Zeng visited the well-known Pitch Lake, as China is one of the main importers of natural pitch of Trinidad and Tobago.

    Zeng Sunday flew into Trinidad and Tobago, the fourth leg of his five-nation visit in Latin America and Caribbean that will also take him to Jamaica Tuesday.

    Prior to this, Zeng had just wound up his visit to Mexico, Peruand Venezuela.

    Zeng is also scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the first Ministerial-level Meeting of the China-Caribbean Economy andTrade Cooperation Forum in Jamaica Wednesday. Enditem
