Palestinians ready to take over security from Israelis
www.chinaview.cn 2005-01-30 08:02:27

GAZA, Jan. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Former minister of interior security Mohamed Dahlan asserted on Saturday that the Palestinian security forces are ready to take over security control on any Palestinian territory from where Israel pulls out.

Dahlan made the remark as he was heading to Tel Aviv to meet with Israeli Defense Minister Shaoul Mofaz on security issues.

"The Palestinian security forces have the full readiness to take over all the Palestinian territories that Israel withdraws from," Dahlan told Xinhua on telephone on his way to Tel Aviv.

Palestinian security sources closed to Dahlan said the meeting would be held in a hotel in Tel Aviv instead of the Israeli Defense Ministry known as "Ha Kerya".

Dahlan said that his meeting with Mofaz would be based on their last meeting in August 2003 when Mahmoud Abbas was premier under late president Yasser Arafat.

"We had understandings on several issues in the last meeting and we are going to continue with it," he said.

Those issues included the Israeli pullout from five West Bank cities, release of Palestinian prisoners, stop of targetted killing policy.

He said that the meeting would also tackle the agenda of the summit between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon scheduled for Feb. 8, the first since moderate Abbas was elected president of the Palestinian Authority on Jan. 9 to succeed Arafat. Enditem
