กก PARIS, Jan. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The elections scheduled for Sunday in Iraq are "possible and useful", despite the climate of insecurity, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said in an interview with the French daily Le Parisien to be published on Sunday.
"The only way out of this tragedy, this instability is through the political process, through democracy and elections," Barnier said.
The elections are "both possible and useful," despite the insurgent violence aiming to derail the vote, he said, adding thathe did not believe the polls should have been postponed.
"Who can say for certain that, by delaying them, the elections would have been better or safer?"
Iraq will on Sunday hold its first multiparty election in more than five decades. But the strict measures the country has taken for the election have not prevented the violence and fear about a low participation rate worrying the high-level officials in Iraq. Enditem
