URGENT: Ministerial meeting ends, urging tsunami warning system

    PHUKET, Thailand, Jan. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- A two-day international meeting on tsunami early warning system wound up here Saturday in a competition among a number of countries to host a regional system.

    The ministerial meeting adopted a declaration reaffirming the efforts to set up a regional system and the introduction of a trust fund to facilitate it.

    Representatives from 43 countries and regions, as well as 14 international organizations attended the meeting, which is one in a series of international conferences on the setting up of an early warning system for the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.
